How to Add Testimonials to WordPress With One Snippet

Show video, audio and written testimonials on any WordPress site using a Custom HTML block, Elementor or Divi. No testimonial plugin needed.

You can show video, audio and written testimonials on any WordPress site by pasting one short snippet. There is no plugin to install, so there is nothing to update, nothing to conflict with your theme, and your testimonials keep working if you ever change it.

1. Why a snippet instead of a plugin

Most WordPress testimonial plugins store testimonials in your own database and expect you to type them in. That leaves you with the hard part, actually getting testimonials from customers, and adds one more plugin to keep patched.

With Akteora, customers record or write their testimonial through a collect link, you approve it in Akteora, and the snippet on your site shows it. Your WordPress install stays exactly as it is.

2. Build your widget

Sign up free, collect a testimonial or two, approve them and turn on Show publicly. Then open Widgets, choose New widget, pick a layout and copy the snippet:

<div data-akteora-widget="wgt_…" style="height:320px"></div>
<script src="https://cdn.akteora.com/w.js" async></script>

A wall suits a testimonials page, a carousel a home page, and single or avatars fit beside a contact form or a pricing table. Use tags to show different testimonials on different pages.

3. Paste it into WordPress

Where you editWhat to do
Block editor (Gutenberg)Add a Custom HTML block where you want the testimonials and paste the snippet. Use Preview to check it.
Site editor (block themes)Open Appearance, then Editor, choose the template or pattern, add a Custom HTML block and paste.
Classic editorSwitch to the Text tab, place the cursor where you want it and paste.
ElementorDrag the HTML widget onto the page and paste the snippet into it.
DiviAdd a Code module and paste the snippet into it.

Keep the style="height:…" on the first line. It reserves the widget’s space, so your page doesn’t jump as it loads. For a second widget on the same page, you only need its first line; one script serves them all.

4. If it doesn’t show up

WordPress removed the script when I saved
WordPress only lets users with the unfiltered_html capability save scripts. By default that is administrators on a normal site and super admins on a multisite network. Ask an administrator to paste the snippet, or to add it for you in a reusable pattern you can then place.
The box is there but it’s empty
The widget only shows testimonials that are approved and set to Show publicly. A new widget also takes a few seconds to publish the first time.
It shows in the editor but not on the live site
Clear your caching plugin’s cache. If you use a plugin that delays or combines scripts, exclude cdn.akteora.com/w.js from it.
It looks wrong after I changed the layout
A new layout has a different height. Copy the new snippet from Akteora and paste it over the old one.

The widget sets no cookies and loads nothing but its own files, so it needs no change to your cookie notice. For other platforms, see the general guide or the Shopify guide, and read where to put testimonials on your website for placement ideas.

Common questions

Do I need a WordPress testimonial plugin?

No. The Akteora widget is a short HTML snippet that works in any theme. Testimonials are collected, approved and stored in Akteora, so your WordPress database and plugin list stay as they are.

Why does WordPress delete my embed code?

WordPress only lets users with the unfiltered_html capability save script tags, which by default means administrators on a single site and super admins on a multisite network. An administrator can paste the snippet for you.
